Finding a Therapist
Finding a Good Hypnotherapist
Regrettably there is almost no legislation in the UK designed to regulate the training and qualification of hypnotherapy practitioners. The increase in acceptance by the public and the NHS of complementary therapies has led to a huge increase in the number of people claiming to give training to an adequate standard. Unfortunately some of this training is sub-standard.
When you are looking for a hypnotherapist to help you with a particular problem there are a number of things to look out for when checking out your prospective therapist including:
What was their training?
Is their training accredited?
Was their training accreditted by the BAC or UKCP?
Is there a system of on-going training?
Is there a system of supervision?
Do they have professional indemnity insurance?
Do they abide by a written code of ethics?
Are they subject to a formal complaints procedure?
Are they members of a nationally recognised professional body?
All members of the BSCH have a guaranteed excellence of training and can answer yes to the above questions.
You will find various types of membership within the online database as outlined below - all are qualified to at least diploma level:
Associate Member - qualified Hypnotherapist, with a pass at least Diploma level from a recognised training institute.
Full Member - qualified Hypnotherapist, with a pass at at least Diploma level from a recognised training institution and additional accredited specialist training (currently set at 12 unit points, or a pass at Advanced or Practitioner level).
Diplomate - as Full member but with an accepted paper on a relevant clinical topic.
Fellow - Full or Diplomate member upgraded from within the society for special service or achievement.
